Marlon Rivers
Samoan
Marlon presents a frank slice of narrative delivered
by his father in
No Regrets, as he sits at the kitchen table. Looking back on his days
growing up in Samoa and Hawaii, the father recounts the tensions that
occurred between the expectations of family and community, with their
desire to see the young man performing on the football field, and his
own
lack of interest in sport. With a similar direct approach, Marlon has
also turned his attention to youth culture. ET Observations tracks the
hopes and disappointments of a hip-hop group as they deal with the impact
of commercial recognition. The group are forced to confront their
ambivalence to moving from the margins into a wider audience and address
the way in which their currency are affected.
